In 2015 Sweden issued the goal of eliminating fossil fuels within its borders and will likely be the first country to be 100% dependent on renewables. Sweden also challenged other countries to do the same and see who can win the race to 100% renewable dependency
In 2015 the United States generated about 13% of its energy from renewable sources. Unfortunately the U.S. is still heavily dependent on petroleum, coal and natural gas. The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts renewable sources will grow in the U.S. through 2040.
